Choose the quiet edge
Look for a seat away from the main walking line and the brightest screen glare. Check how others move through the space at the time you read.
Make light local
A focused lamp can light a page without flooding the room. Keep cords safe and choose a position that does not shine directly into someone else's seat.
Keep the kit contained
Use a nearby shelf for the current book and one layer. When the reading hour ends, reset the surface so the room remains useful to everyone.
What if there is no spare chair?
Try an existing sofa seat with a better lamp position and a stable landing spot for the book.
